If it is good enough for Brett Favre, then why not me?

I have some great news. I am retiring from work as of April 1, no joke!

For several months I have been toying with the idea, and now is the right time. Recently I have had some health issues and need to get back in shape. I've struggled with this and need to take a new course of action. My plan is to hike the 2,174 miles of the Appalachian Trail this year. I'll start hiking north from Georgia to West Virginia on April 19. In July, I will take a week off and return to Michigan. Then I will restart in Maine and hike south along the Appalachian Trail back to West Virginia from July to October. I figure if I am not back in shape then, there is no hope for me.

I have no plans for after that. My thoughts are that I will have six months for thinking about the remainder of my retirement. As long as I alternately get one foot in front of the other, my mind is free to reflect on what to do with the rest of my life.

Here is a Wikipedia version of the Appalachian Trail description for your information. I have highlighted some sections of it.

Also I have a tentative timetable. I would love to have company on the trail. So if there is a section and a time that make sense for you, please plan on joining me.

Happy Trails!
